Symptra

Visit preparation

What’s going on — and how soon to get care.

Take a photo, record a cough, and add what you’re feeling. Symptra shows a short ranked list of possibilities, suggests how urgent it looks, and saves it on your chart to bring to a clinician.

Not a diagnosis. Not a doctor. Not HIPAA certified. Not FDA-cleared. If this could be an emergency, call 911. In a crisis, call 988.

Urgency · sample throat visit

A clinic visit fits

The marked step is the urgency. It names a step, not a verdict and not a diagnosis. A low step is care at home. Emergency is a hard stop, not a higher score on the list.

An urgency band is triage-style visit preparation, not a diagnosis. Symptra is not a doctor, not HIPAA certified, and not FDA-cleared. A red flag means call 911.

Viral pharyngitis · 46% of the ranking. Strep stays on the list.

The visit

One visit: photo, cough, labs, and your chart.

01 Photo

A still or a short clip. Light and steadiness are checked before the frame is used.

02 Cough

A cough or a few breaths. What you record is a hint on this device, not a clinic measurement.

03 Labs

Upload a PDF or image and type the values if you have them. They can change the ranking. They are not a laboratory diagnosis.

04 Chart

Allergies, medicines, and what you saved last time are already here.

One visit

Photo, cough, labs, and chart stay together.

You do not finish a long quiz and then open another app for the photo. One visit holds the photo, the cough, labs if you have them, your chart, a short ranked list, and a note you can take to a clinician.

A ranked list — not a single answer

Three to five names, each with a share of this list. None is a certainty.

Help while you take the photo

Light, framing, and steadiness are checked before a frame is used.

Your chart is already here

Allergies, medicines, and what you saved last time are on the chart. You do not start from a blank page.

A note for a clinician

The visit, the urgency step, labs, and history on one page. It is visit preparation, not an order.

Throat photo

How to take a clear throat photo.

  1. 1Face a window or a lamp. Light should fall on your face, not shine from behind you.
  2. 2Open wide, drop your tongue, and say “ahh.” The tonsils and the little dangling uvula should be in frame — not just teeth.
  3. 3Hold the phone about a hand’s length away. When the light pill turns ready, stay still and capture.

Ranked possibilities

A ranked list — not a single answer.

4 names

Each card is a possibility for a clinician to review. The list is visit preparation, not a diagnosis. A clinician who can examine you can reorder it.

These shares add to 100% of this list.

A ranking is visit preparation, not a single diagnosis. The percent is a share of this list, not a chance of having it. Symptra is not a doctor, not HIPAA certified, and not FDA-cleared.

  1. Possibility · 1 of 4

    Viral pharyngitis

    Why it appears

Cough and a runny nose beside a sore throat fit a virus more than strep.

    • Sore throat
    • Cough
    • Runny nose
    • Fever

Would raise itA cough or a runny nose that stays with the sore throat.

Would lower itNo cough, tender neck glands, and pale patches together.

Watch. Drooling or inability to swallow liquids · A new rash · Neck swelling on one side

When to seek care. Get a throat swab if fever and pain are still climbing after another day.

  2. Possibility · 2 of 4

    Streptococcal pharyngitis

    Why it appears

Fever and painful swallowing keep strep on the list. A cough keeps it from sitting first. A throat swab is what settles it.

    • Fever
    • Painful swallowing

Would raise itFever, painful swallowing, tender neck glands, or pale patches, without a cough.

Would lower itA cough, a runny nose, or a negative throat swab.

Watch. A new rash · Neck swelling on one side · Drooling or inability to swallow liquids

When to seek care. A throat swab is how this is settled. Do not start a leftover antibiotic from this rank.

  3. Possibility · 3 of 4

    Post-nasal drip

    Why it appears

Seasonal allergies are on the chart, and drainage can scratch the throat.

    • Runny nose
    • A match already on the chart

Would raise itDrainage, a night cough, or allergies already on the chart.

Would lower itA high fever with no nasal symptoms.

Watch. A fever that will not settle · One-sided face pain · Breathing that becomes hard

When to seek care. See a clinician if the drip comes with one-sided face pain or a fever that will not settle.

  4. Possibility · 4 of 4

    Infectious mononucleosis

    Why it appears

Further down the list after three days, and worth naming if the fatigue outlasts the cold.

    • Sore throat

Would raise itFatigue and swollen glands that last into a second week.

Would lower itA short illness that still fits a cold.

Watch. Fatigue that outlasts the throat pain · A tender abdomen · Trouble swallowing liquids

When to seek care. See a clinician if the exhaustion outlasts the sore throat, or if the abdomen becomes tender.

What this is

Visit preparation. Not a device.

  1. Wellness. General health education does not interpret your chart into a ranked differential. That is not what this visit is.
  2. Visit preparation — this release. Symptra prepares a visit note you can read and hand to a clinician. It is not software as a medical device. You see the inputs, the ranking, and the urgency. A clinician share pack is the handoff. It is not a claim of regulatory clearance.
  3. Software as a medical device — not this release. A later program would need clinical validation, a quality system, and FDA review before anyone could claim the software diagnoses or treats. We do not make that claim.

Symptra is not HIPAA certified and not FDA-cleared. Those phrases are not used because they would be false.

HIPAA is a set of duties, not a badge an app can award itself. Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest, and health pages do not load marketing trackers. Settings can download a JSON copy. Account deletion is not available yet; it is planned for production. A covered entity still needs a Business Associate Agreement and a production review before real patient information is processed. Legal notes.

Family charts

A caregiver can keep a child or a parent on the same account. The visit uses their allergies, not yours.

A note you can share

Copy the visit, the ranked list, and labs. A 72-hour link is a separate step. Nothing is emailed.

Delete a visit

You can delete one saved visit from its page. Deleting the account is not available yet.

Plans

Free includes five visits. Plus removes the limit.

The ranked list is the same on Free and Plus. Plus is about $12–$15 a month, or $99 a year. Checkout is not live. A visit still runs after five.

Symptra gives an AI assessment: a ranked differential and an urgency, not a diagnosis from a licensed clinician and not a medical device. It can be wrong. If this could be an emergency — chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, a severe allergic reaction, or heavy bleeding — call 911 or your local emergency number. In a crisis, call or text 988. Do not wait for the app. Share the visit note with your own clinician before you treat it as a plan.
